Live Plants
Our live plant collection gives you instant access to uncommon Dahlias, Mums, scented Geraniums and more—including many coveted colors and varieties—no greenhouse or green thumb required. Each plant begins as a cutting from our healthy "mother" plants grown here on our farm in Columbus, Ohio. We grow them in premium soil and give them some TLC before they are carefully shipped to you, rooted and ready to plant.
Peony Bareroots
Peony roots need to be planted as soon as you receive them. If you are unable to plant them right away, you can keep them refrigerated for up to 2-3 weeks.
Peonies like to be in full sun or light shade with 4-6 hours of direct sunlight per day. They prefer heavier soils and a spot that is well draining.
Bareroot peonies should be planted in late fall or early spring when the ground is workable. Soak the root for 30 minutes before planting.
Dig a hole about 5x the width of the crown and 1/5x the depth, and add compost and fertilizer to the hole. Place the root so they eyes are 1-2" below the soil surface, backfill with soil, and water thoroughly.
Willow Cuttings
When your order arrives, give each branch a fresh cut. To give yourself more cuttings, you can also cut them in half at this stage. Just make sure each stick is 4-6" for best results.
Plase the fresh cut bottoms in water to develop roots. Make sure the bottom of each stick is facing down in the water, and allow 1-2 weeks for roots to develop.
Plant your now rooted cuttings directly into the soil or into a pot with your favorite soil mix. We recommend starting them inside 4-6 weeks before you plant them out, and any size tray or pot will work.
We suggest coppicin the plants each year to allow for future years of strong, straight growth. Cut them back to about knee or waist height in the late winter or early spring.
Rooted Cuttings
When your order arrives, water the plants and allow them to rest for 2-3 days to adjust to your climate before planting.
Plant your cuttings directly into the ground after your last frost in the spring. If you have frost in the forecast, transplant your cuttings into 4" pots.
After transplanting, water your plants thoroughly. During the first 1-2 weeks, water your plants frequently to help them get established. If your plants were transplanted into pots, let them dry out to a level 2 out of a 5 between waterings to encourage deeper root growth.
Mums and dahlias may require netting or staking for extra support as they grow.
Liners
A liner is a small, young plant in a 4" pot that is ready for transplanting into a larger container or directly into the ground. When you receive your order, water the plants thoroughly and give them 2-3 days to rest and adjust to your climate before planting outside.
They can be planted outside when the ground is workable. After transplanting, water the plants thoroughly.
Bareroot Clumps
Bareroot plants are ready to be planted when you receive them. If the ground in your zone is workable, you can plant them directly in the ground right away. You can also put them in 4-6" pots to grow more roots for a more established plant before transplanting.
When you plant your bareroot clumps, be sure to fill in around the roots and keep them well watered while they are getting settled in their new home.
