History
Twenty years ago, Sunny Meadows began with some youthful energy, strong backs, and a belief that anything was possible. What started as a small flower patch in our homesteading garden has grown into a thriving 50+ acre farm, a 25-person team, and an incredible community that continues to support us season after season and year after year.
This timeline is a look back at the moments that made us who we are today. It includes major milestones, lessons learned, and the growth in our farm and our family. Along the way, we've been honored to grow flowers for life's biggest events and play a leading role in the sustainable flower farming industry. 2006-2011
2006: Steve & Gretel started Sunny Meadows Flower Farm, growing fresh vegetables and cut flowers to sell at local farmers markets.
In 2008, we started doing flowers for weddings—our first job was our wedding!
2012-2014
2012: This was the first year that Steve & Gretel both worked full-time, year-round at the farm. We also hired our first employees: Nate, Amanda, and Kumiko. We quit growing veggies in 2012 and moved to 100% cut flowers. We also bought our first Farmall and incorporated mechanical cultivation.
2015-2017
In 2015, we built our first flower barn on our home farm to process flowers after they come back from harvest. This year, we had 11 employees, with some of them coming to live on the farm being interns from out of town.
2016 was the first year that we farmed at Decker's, a nearby nursery who had open land for us to grow flowers on. This allowed us to double our field production.
2018-2021
In 2018, we added 2 hoopties and more fields at Decker's to grow our production. This was also our first year utilizing the H2A program to bring on seasonal help.
2019 was the year that Gretel contracted Lyme. Through the rest of 2019 and into 2020, we started shipping to florists and retail customers nationwide. We quit selling at farmer's markets.
We also started construction on our shop and office building, with a loft for drying flowers.
2022-2025
In 2022, we added 4 more visas to our H2A program. As our florist sales grew, we decided to quit doing weddings so we could simplify and streamline what we do best: grow quality cut flowers.
In 2023, our son, Levon Wyatt Adams was born in March!
The following year, we lost access to the farm where we had planned to grow our woody perennials, and found out that our contracts for our two other rented properties were being terminated.
We were fortunate to find nearby property that we were able to purchase, and started farming another neighbor's land across the street from our home farm.
2026
This year we are celebrating 20 years of farming! If you have ever purchased flowers from us or visited us at the Farmstand, thank you for supporting our farm. We are honored to be a part of your celebrations and special occasions, for everyday moments or life's milestones.
